ADOBE CREATE NOW 2024

This year has been truly incredible, and I was honoured to be invited as a speaker at Adobe's Create Now event, held at the Tate Modern in London this October. The event was nothing short of stunning, providing an inspiring space where creativity and innovation came together. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local creators, explore new collaboration possibilities, and stay on top of the latest tech and tips in the creative world. If you ever get the chance, this is definitely an event you won't want to miss!

SPEAKER EXPERIENCE

Create Now marked my first public speaking experience, and I have to admit, I was incredibly nervous. With 500 people in front of me and a bit of stage fright, I felt out of my comfort zone. But part of growth is pushing yourself to do things that make you uncomfortable, almost like facing your fears head-on. And you know what? It went better than I expected! The crowd was so supportive, and after I finished, there was a one-hour queue of people wanting to speak with me. It was truly overwhelming, but in the best way. I was grateful to have inspired so many people, and this experience has only fueled my desire to teach in the future. It really helped me step outside my comfort zone and showed me the power of embracing challenges.

FILMORAMAX 2024

Designing merch for Filmoramax was an exciting and rewarding experience! Based in Lyon, France, the festival gave me the opportunity to create custom merch like bucket hats, tees, and hoodies, along with designing the animation shown before each movie entry. I drew inspiration from the festival’s theme and the unique vibe of Lyon to make the designs truly special. It was a fun challenge to bring everything together. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the designs! Feel free to reach out if you'd like to see them or learn more about the creative process.

LYON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

After designing for Filmoramax, I had the incredible opportunity to meet all the judges, attend every event, and watch all the films. I also had the chance to dine with renowned directors and famous French actors, gaining invaluable insights into how cinematography is shaped by artistic interpretation. This experience not only allowed me to make meaningful connections but also helped me expand my network and attract new clients. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience that I’ll always cherish.

THE Game changer.

Back in 2011, I took a leap of faith and journeyed to the vibrant and competitive city of London. It was a daunting step, and initially, I felt a mixture of trepidation and excitement. Little did I know, that decision would be a catalyst for an incredible voyage of self-discovery. Fast forward to 2013 – a pivotal year for me. I proudly graduated from the London College of Communication. It was more than just an academic achievement; it marked the birth of David Oku the artist and, more significantly, my embrace of my personal creative identity. LCC was my cocoon of transformation, a place where I shed inhibitions and embraced my own unique artistic voice. But it wasn't just about academia. The real treasures were the people – incredible individuals from all corners of the world, each with their own stories and dreams. Their journeys, struggles, and triumphs inspired me to mold myself into the person I aspired to become. And let me tell you, there's a truth I've come to hold dear: if you carry a dream within you, no matter the timeline, it's within your grasp. I've learned that every step, every setback, and every success has contributed to the tapestry of my journey. So remember, if you're holding onto a dream, believe in its power and know that you have the strength to turn it into reality, no matter how long the road might seem.

Things to know.

My artistic adventure spans across continents  from Dortmund to Lagos, Milan to London my journey into the enchanting world of art ignited during my early years. Picture a curious kid, tirelessly scribbling on every available surface, often losing myself in the tranquility of empty rooms, my imagination running wild. Even in high school, my love for illustration shone brightly, garnering me victories in competitions and even a role at my professor's business. But that was just the beginning. I craved more. Graphic design beckoned, and I heeded its call. Armed with determination and an internet connection, I taught myself the intricacies of Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects through countless online tutorials. The hard work was my canvas, and the outcome? I stand amidst the fruits of my labor, proud and fulfilled, witnessing my passion evolve into remarkable creations. The journey, with its twists and turns, has led me to this point of artistic fulfillment, and I can't wait to see what's next on this creative path.
